What filler do you use in your supplements?Updated 10 months ago
Some herbal extracts need rice flour to act as a “filler” or “flow agent” to ensure they can be encapsulated and/or to help maintain uniformity of the capsule contents, ensuring each capsule delivers a consistent dose.
Whether or not a filler is needed depends on the flowability and compressibility of the herb extract powder. Fillers can improve these properties, making the powder easier to work with on manufacturing lines during the encapsulation process.
Not all herbal extracts need a filler or flow agent - it is entirely dependent on the herb itself. When not needed, we don’t use it.
Rice flour was chosen because it is natural, gentle on the stomach, gluten-free, recognizable, and has good “flow” properties - preventing ingredients from sticking and clumping together, ensuring a consistent fill in each capsule.
Many supplements on the market contain silica, gelatin, magnesium stearate, stearic acid, microcrystalline cellulose (derived from wood pulp) - as you see, not real good stuff going on here. We keep it simple - just rice flour!
